Chicago brought nearly 200 athletes from 23 different states. Coach Kohl recaps top performers, as some of the best in the Midwest competed.
Kohl's CommentsLuna competed at the 2017 National Scholarship Camp and several training camps the past 3 months. He is a very solid college prospect that should be able to compete at the D1 Level. Strong Leg, good hands and clean steps. He generates clean spirals and has great control of his body. He has gotten stronger and hits well into the wind. He charted several 50 + yards punts at camp and hit hang times in the 4.4's. Sitting back and staying smaller on his plant step should allow him to create more hang time on his punts.
My name is Carlos Rueben Luna and I graduated from Lucas High School class of 2016. During high school, in addition to Punting/Kicking, I played quarterback and Linebacker leading our team to the regional championship.
While in high school I also trained with The Kicking Coach, Filip Folipovic (former Dallas Cowboys punter). The below left video is prior to my senior year in High School from Coach Filopoviches invitation only "Top Kicker in America Camp". At this camp I had the best charted hang time of 4.81 secs (see charting attachment below). The below right video is from the same camp the summer of my senior where i had the best average distance of 48 yds. Prior to the second video I have only attended Kohls once (Winter Showcase in Pittsburgh in 2015), which was held in a dome, I hit the dome during the competition and during my chartings which affected my overall charting ranking. Jamie Kohl wanted me to focus on driving the ball and that is what I have worked on since then as reflected in the second video and my most recent Kohl's 2017 Scholarship Camp statistics/ranking. I am very capable of higher hang times as reflectived in the top video and have been working on shortening up my steps and bringing my drop table up.
I am a kicker/punter combo who has just recently completed my first year of college at the University of Toledo in northeast Ohio. I played for the Rockets and was redshirted beginning my first semester at the university. I gained valuable reps during spring football and performed very well in the spring game and finished the the season #1 on the depth chart per assistant special teams coach Pat Cashmore. I decided to leave the university due to the fact that the opportunity to win the scholarship before this coming season (2017), as agreed upon and the main reason i decided to attend the university, did not come to fruition. The coach wanted me to go through my first season there and then be evaluated for a scholarship. I am prepared to start for a team immediately. I am looking for a possible transfer to continue my career as a college punter and kicker.
